One of my goals for 2010 is to pour my heart into my photography.
My photography. Not the branding of my business. Or designing a new website. Or pleasing my peers. Or finding “inspirational” photographers to feed off of. But to find out what photography means to me. What does it do for me? Why do I love it? Please don’t get me wrong. I will still be pouring plenty of time and energy into my business and all the requirements of running a successful business, with a huge focus being taking care of my clients. But this year I really want to define myself as a photographer and figure out what it is that makes me tick.
Behind every good goal is a great plan. Am I right? So I have two mini goals in place to help me achieve this.
First of all, I will be participating in a 365 day photo project on Flickr. For those of you who don’t know, the basic goal of this project is to take a photo every single day for the next year. I doubt I will be posting a photo every day, but I do plan on snapping the shutter daily and sharing the photos as time allows. I am sure I will be posting a few of my favorite images here on occasion, but my journey will mostly be documented on Flickr. I am excited about this project for a few reasons, the top two being: 1. It is going to stretch me and train me to think creatively every single day, as well 2. It is going to give me great accountability for sharing my daily life through photos with my husband while we are apart.
In addition, I have enrolled in an online workshop with about 150 other photographers from all over the world. The e-course is called Unravelling and it is run by the fab Susannah Conway. Susannah describes the goal and agenda of the workshop as: “Beginning with your feet, you’re going to go on a photo safari into your own life to reconnect with who you are, where you’ve been and where you want to go next.” Really, could that be anymore perfect?
So, both of these projects begin in January and I am excited to kick them off! Look forward to some more personal writing and images to appear here on the blog as I explore who I am as an artist and open myself up a little more to my friends and family that drop in to check on me every now and then.
I hope you are enjoying your holiday season!
