My evolving style | Lynchburg Family Photographer

I was sitting in my sister’s kitchen a few weekends ago just watching the scene around me. Her four kiddos (5 and under) were all sitting in their seats around the table. Her husband was handing plates out left and right and appeared to be juggling ten things at once, yet loving life. The lighting was perfect (seriously, check out her kitchen - or one corner of it) and I thought: this… THIS is a picture. This is a photo that these four kids are going to giggle over some day and cherish as a reminder of life together. Breakfast around the table every morning with the family. This is routine. This is a memory.

Then… the thought occurred to me *gasp* … I don’t really care about all those expensive portraits my mom had our family take over the years. Sure, we keep them. But the photos I love are the pictures of me making funny faces, my brother attempting tricks on his skateboard, or my two siblings and I all done unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning with our new winter hats on… those pictures of life. Those are the ones I love, that I keep and cherish. The ones I take time to look at as the years pass.

Those are the images I want to produce for my clients.

So this is your heads up. As I wrap up my 2009 year (slowly but surely - I am still so swamped), I am having a hard time holding back my excitement about all the ideas brewing in my head. Expect to see a change in my work and style as 2010 unfolds. I have a handful of “for me” photo sessions I want to take on before the spring wedding season hits and I am so looking forward to pouring some different work out onto this blog in coming months. (Side note: stay tuned for some casting calls for help with those photo sessions!)

I want to capture the moments you will cherish for a lifetime. That is the work that truly brings fulfillment to me, I believe that is the work I was made to do.

A moment…

You do a great job, and you are right about the photos ... it is the special moments that capture how someone feels in a certain situation and grasping it on film. You are an EXCELLENT photographer, and I certainly wish you all the best.
