Gratituesday | Road Trips

roadtrip

Okay so I like to travel. I actually travel a lot… probably more than I admit to myself. I travel for business, for family, for friends. In one summer alone (at the lovely age of 21) I traveled to (mind you these were all road trips) Nebraska, Chicago, Ohio, New Jersey, Cape Cod, Boston, Panama City, State College, PA, Fayetteville, NC, Jacksonville, NC. Okay, the trip to Cape Cod was actually taken by flight. :) But! Everything else! I drove myself in my lovely little 1996 Saturn that I grew up in. Ahhh… love old that car.

I digress.

This past weekend I went to Atlanta with my husband Tommy. We are such great road trip buddies. Although we have to constantly compromise our music selection and the temperature of the car, we simply enjoy each other and that makes the whole trip so much better. :) So we went to Atlanta… and escaped the everyday routine we find ourselves caught up in ever so often. We love to get away and just enjoy each other and our friends.

Road trips can be so refreshing! I love the chance I have to just get away… to turn up the volume on my radio and drive down back roads with the windows down. Ahhh. Love, love! So this week I am grateful for road trips and the escape they can offer at times.

What has been the best road trip you’ve gone on? What made it so great? Please share!

Oooohhhh…. and of course… what you have ALL been waiting for. First of all, thank you all so much for your kind words about the big step I am about to take! And also, thank you for sharing your dream jobs! It was so fun to read them all! :)

The winner of the $50 Gift Card to his/her store of choice is…. dum dum dummm…

November 3, 2009 - 7:15 pm Emily G - The numbers are never in my favor (I'm not lucky like that), but congrats to the winner! :) As for road trips... well, Jimmy and i have a good time together too. We've had some amazing conversations while on road trips (back before we were married sometimes they were hard--but the outcomes were always sooooo positive and awesome). My favorite road trip? Hmm... I guess i would say either the one in the middle of the night to Connecticut when we were mistakenly on 95 near NYC and the road was treacherous and the drivers were crazy (we had to stick together & we felt like we conquered the world when we got to the beach house) or the trip up to NJ for my grandfather's 80th birthday party. Jimmy & i laughed so much that trip! :) -Emily

SO happy for you... your leaping... your DOING IT! your dream is a reality! . . . . . . . road trips... we have been on lots... some better than others of course. i will say it has to be when we were kids... we drove from Corpus Christi to Estes Park in a Good Times van (remember those)! it was my family & my best friend's family... all seven of us. i will ALWAYS remember the FUN we had on that trip... the company... the LAUGHS... the down right silliness! road trips etch such a spot in our hearts i think... we see the sites... but i think we FEEL the new and exciting sites too... you know.

November 4, 2009 - 10:16 am mel hughes parker - Hmmmm – my best road trip – there are so many great memories from when I was little – one year my dad loaded Casey and I into the car with our Christmas gifts to visit our grandparents… That was fun – we played and played. Another time we drove to St George Island in FL and I think that could be the best. I was about 15 and my dad fished once we got there. He was totally relaxed. On the drive down, I spoke on his portable CB radio to truckers – my call name was “secret squirrel” and it stuck as one of my nicknames with my dad. I stayed up the whole night with him – it took us about 12-14 hours and my sisters slept in the back. We listened to music – but I mainly remember smiling a lot.

November 5, 2009 - 10:13 am Jacqulyn - I love road trips, as well. I would have to say the best one most recently is our little vaca to Conneticut. I remember we turned that little 6 hour trip into a 12 hour doozey. I talked so much my jaw hurt, and I am not even sure I remember about what. Thanks for being a great travel buddy, and thanks for taking me along!
