Gratituesday: the photography community

So I owe you all an apology for missing last week’s Gratituesday. I’m sorry. :(

Hopefully this one will make up for it? Here we go…!

The other day, one of my many daily tweets said this:

It is so true that lately photographers are coming out from everywhere! Luckily, I  have been able to benefit from that and it has been an awesome experience for me. I have had the opportunity not only to help some people who are just starting out, but to connect with and receive guidance from my peers in this business as well. Let’s be honest, it’s a passion for ALL of us, am I right? Once you get bitten by the photographer bug, it can take over your life if you aren’t careful!

Luckily for me, the taking-over-my-life thing has finally taken a back seat and I have been able to figure out a way to relax, smother the constant excitement, and allow myself to think of and focus on things that may have been in that back seat for a while, like friends, family and more important relationships. However, I have also had the awesome chance to get to know some other photographers who I am happy to say have become dear friends of mine.

It’s the best of both worlds! Especially when you do lots of “service-trade” photo shoots for each other and your families! ;) Please meet Rachel from R. Clarke Photography in Fredericksburg, VA!

Hi Rachel! :)

The photography community is full of people who are ready and willing to teach, encourage, give feedback, point you in the right direction, and simply share experiences with you. As my style and work continue to develop, I have been able to also share some great experiences and lessons with my photog peers. It’s been an awesome journey so far and I can’t wait to see where it will take me in the future.

Yay for this amazing community that I have been able to be a part of!

October 14, 2009 - 9:02 am Emily G. - As someone you've "given pointers to" i have to say i enjoy this aspect of things. I was going to mention that i would still love to do a night-time photo seeking adventure with you sometime (preferably when it's warmer). ;) Keep working on your craft, my friend... your pictures just keep getting better and better. -EmilyG.

October 16, 2009 - 5:39 pm Armin - Sweet post, nice shot of Rachel!

February 17, 2010 - 2:10 pm Melissa - Thank you for being so generous. Just starting out in the business, has been a real learning experience for me because other photographers have not been nice or forthcoming with information. It's nice to see someone who isn't threatened by another photographer asking a question or wanting to learn the industry.
